History: Benton was founded in 1839, Named after Missouri Senator Thomas Hart Benton. West City was incorporated in 1911 and derived its name from being located west of Benton.

  • Southern Illinois Artisans Shop and Visitor Center - West of exit 77 off I-57 - This state-owned facility offers arts and crafts by Southern Illinois artists.
